I have gone through many stages and changes as an Etsy seller and fibre artist. Everything that I have made and experimented with has brought me to where I am today, making wearable, usable art.
When I retired from teaching high school English, I sought out creative ways to fill my time. For a time, I took up furniture painting and refinishing. I sold a lot of furniture locally and some on Etsy through my Upwithfurniture shop. This eventually led to textiles because I love colour and texture. I spent a year learning shibori techniques for dyeing patterns.
I also re-acquainted myself with my sewing machine and taught myself embroidery and fabric collage. My shop has an eclectic mix of things that I have made because I love doing so many different things and using my dyed fabrics in new ways. I have given new life to vintage white napkins through dye; created children’s clothing with whimsical embroidery and used bits of everything ( dyed fabric, collage and embroidery)in my needle books and book covers and pieces of clothing art.
I am inspired by the amazing embroidery artists who sell on Etsy and who post on social media. There are so many ideas that I would like to experiment with; however, just not enough time to do them all.
Everything sold here is unique, made carefully with natural fabrics and a splash of creativity.
